Stress is a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that “demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilise.” In less formal terms, we feel stressed when we feel “things are out of control.”
Inability to cope with demands is key to your level of stress. For example, starting a new job might be a wholly exciting experience if everything else in life is stable and positive. If you start a new job when you’ve just moved into a new home, your partner is ill, or you’re experiencing financial difficulties, you might find it difficult to manage.
Not all unusual events are equally taxing to deal with. Compare the stress of divorce with that of a change in responsibilities at work. Because of this, you need to be able to rate and measure your total stress score appropriately.
How much does it take to push you “over the edge?” What stresses you out the most? What is the “go to” remedy you deploy.
